Build a new site
We recommend Droost CMS for a fresh Drupal CMS project. It includes a Tailwind-based starter theme that AI can build on. It is optional.
Follow the recipe installation steps. Apply the recipe before the CMS starter has already been applied. Install Workflow and the recipe's agent layer separately afterward.
Work with an existing site
Droost CMS is not needed for existing sites. You can add the module, Workflow, theme and UI tools separately as needed.
Install the module to inspect Drupal's content and structure:
composer require 'drupal/tool:^1.0@beta' 'drupal/droost:^2.0'
vendor/bin/drush en droost -yOn DDEV, use ddev composer and ddev drush. Tool API's beta stability must be declared in the root project.
Start with Inspect your Drupal site. Enable droost_build and droost_dev only where you need the development tools; the module guide explains their scope.
Add a development workflow
Install droost/workflow in a separate Composer project under tools/droost/. It reads your codebase without bootstrapping Drupal and coordinates plan, code, test and complete.
- Set up by hand for the installation commands.
- Set up with an AI agent for the agent instructions.
- On an existing site for recording a baseline before your first run.
Workflow does not require the Drupal module. The module does not require Workflow.
Add components and entity displays
Use Droost Theme for the presentation layer. Use Droost UI Kit in development when an agent needs to compose entity displays with UI Patterns. Canvas handles freeform pages; UI Patterns handles component-based entity displays.
Check requirements
The module requires Drupal 11.3 or later and PHP 8.3 or later. Workflow needs PHP 8.3 or later with pdo_sqlite. The requirements page lists the requirements for each project.
